She grew up in Ipoh, where her father was a lawyer and her mother was a teacher. Yeoh received her early education in Malaysia before moving to the United Kingdom at the age of 15 to study dance.
Yeoh began her career as a dancer and choreographer, performing in various productions in the UK, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. In the early 1980s, she was discovered by the Hong Kong film director, D&B Films co-owner, and martial arts choreographer, Jackie Chan, who cast her in his film, “Police Story 3: Super Cop” (1992).
Yeoh became a major action star in Hong Kong during the 1990s, starring in numerous martial arts films, including “Supercop” (1992), “Tai Chi Master” (1993), and “Wing Chun” (1994). In 1997, she starred in the James Bond film, “Tomorrow Never Dies,” as Chinese spy Wai Lin, which brought her international fame.
